Cloughjordan is gearing up for the centenary of the Easter Rising in 2016 with a steering committee in place to organise events, Rosemary Joyce, Nenagh MDC administrator told local councillors.

She said that there was “great pride” in the village because of its connection to the Rising with Thomas MacDonagh being from there and he being a signatory to the Proclamation.

The committee is looking at organising events around the annual Thomas MacDonagh Weekend, which is run annually over the May Bank Holiday.

Cllr Joe Hannigan suggested that MacDonagh GAA Club look to developing a link and events with clubs of a similar name globally.
