Meeting will launch an all-town Community text Alert.

The meeting, which has been organised by Cllr Jim Ryan, in conjunction with An Garda Siochana, will feature the local Crime Prevention Officer, Sgt Tom Dwyer, Superintendent Gerard Delamere, representatives of Muintir na Tire who will advise on establishing the text alerts. Thurles Community Services will be on hand also to speak about the grants available to the elderly for the fitting of security systems in their homes - a very informative session is promised here and it should be of huge interest to many people.

“This is a very important meeting for the town of Thurles and we are expecting a huge attendance there on the night. The number of break-in’s have been on the increase in the locality and a lot of people are very upset and worried about this. The Gardai have been very accommodating and I expect that there will be plenty of opportunity for people to ask questions and to get the kind of information they need. A break-in to your home is very upsetting and it is our aim to highlight what can be done to try and combat these crimes and make life as difficult as possible for the thieves,” Cllr Ryan said.
