Cllr Eddie Moran has condemned the comments made by fellow Roscrea / Templemore councillor John Hogan at this Monday’s North Tipperary County Council meeting which he believes belittle the achievement of local groups.
The Lowry Team councillor requested a civic reception for local groups who have secured All-Ireland success and was disheartened by the comments made by Cllr Hogan, which undermined and diminished the achievements made.
Cllr Moran stated:
“At the council meeting I requested a civic reception to commend the fantastic achievements of a number of local groups in the past year. In particular, I had sought to give recognition to Our Lady’s Secondary School Templemore, Templemore Athletic Club and Borrisoleigh Scór. Our Lady’s Secondary School in Templemore secured All-Ireland victory both with their Camogie team and with their hunter trial team, Templemore Athletic Club have won over 60 All-Ireland Medals and three national titles in the last 12 months, while Borrisoleigh Scór na nÓg secured All-Ireland victory in the Leiriu category.
“I was shocked and disappointed by the comments made by Cllr Hogan, who belittled the achievements made by stating that we cannot honour every young person who chases after a ball. The reality is that the achievements I identified do not come without a massive amount of hard work and dedication and each group I put forward has secured All-Ireland success and reached the pinnacle of their chosen field.
“I am proud of the achievements made by these groups in my local area and feel that they deserve the honour and recognition of a civic reception. I am pleased to say that the disparaging comments made by Cllr Hogan have been ignored and the council has agreed to my request to give these groups the credit they so richly deserve.”
