Nineteen homes in Tipperary have been identified as having radon gas levels above the acceptable level by the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII). A single home in Clonmel was found to have nine times the acceptable level of radon, receiving the a radiation dose equivilant to six chest X-rays a day.
Of the 135 Tipperary homes tested for radon gas in the last five months, nineteen of them exceeded the acceptable exposure level. The were in Clonmel (10), Carrick-On-Suir (2), Cahir (2), Cashel (1), Fethard (1), Clogheen (1), Kilsheelan (1), and Thurles (1).
