MacDonagh Weekend: The recent Thomas MacDonagh weekend organised by the Heritage Group to honour and celebrate the life of the patriot was an outstanding success. There was standing room only for the launch of Volume 6 of Cloughjordan Heritage on the opening night. The Rambling House held in the Parish Hall on Saturday night was very enjoyable due to the great work of Fear An Ti, Seamus Costello. On Sunday the parade with the Liam McCarthy Cup and the MacDonagh Pipe Band brought a big crowd to the town. The well known author and historian Sinead McCoole delivered a lecture on the “Widows and Dependants of 1916 Leaders” on Sunday evening to a capacity attendance in the G.A.A. Clubroom. With the approach of 2016 when the centenary of the 1916 Rising will be celebrated it is expected that the Thomas MacDonagh weekend in 2016 will be a National event. Plans are being made to have next years event even bigger to build up momentum for the Centenary Celebrations in 2016.
Hurling: Well done to Kilruane MacDonaghs senior hurlers who beat Lorrha last Saturday to qualify for the knock out stages of the championship. In the next round they will play Kildangan.
