Cllr O’Meara says rural Ireland is being regarded as a ‘dumping ground’ by some

Many people seem to regard rural Ireland as a “dumping ground”, Cllr Michael O’Meara told Nenagh Municipal District Council.

Many people seem to regard rural Ireland as a “dumping ground”, Cllr Michael O’Meara told Nenagh Municipal District Council.

He said that litter was becoming a problem again, especially in out-of-the-way rural areas.

The Lowry Team councillor called for the council to implement a policy on dumping and pointed out that CCTV cameras seemed to be a deterrent, even when the council only put up signs warning they may be in operation.

“It is a huge cost for the council to dispose of this litter.” he said.

Cllr Hughie McGrath agreed and said the council didn’t seem to be getting the upper hand on litter.
