Golden Jubilee Mass for Fr Tom Corbett

The much loved former Parish Priest of Roscrea, Very Rev. Dr. Tom Corbett celebrated the Golden Jubilee of his ordination recently with a special Mass in St. Cronan’s.

The much loved former Parish Priest of Roscrea, Very Rev. Dr. Tom Corbett celebrated the Golden Jubilee of his

ordination recently with a special Mass in St. Cronan’s.

The Mass was presided over by the Bishop of Killaloe Most Rev. Kieran O’Reilly while the former Bishop of Killaloe Dr. Willie Walsh was also in attendance as was the President of St. Patrick’s Pontifical College Maynooth, Monsignor Hugh Connolly. The Church of Ireland was represented by the Rev. Adrian Hewson with the Rector of Clontarf (and formerly of Roscrea) the Rev. Lesley Robinson also in attendance. The Methodist Church was represented by Minister Rev. Shannon de Laureal.

Fr. Tom’s classmate from his days in Maynooth Very Rev. Oliver Doherty, former PP of Dunkerrin was among Fr. Tom’s clerical colleagues in attendance. The local choirs and musical groups were in attendance to include the Community Choir, St. Cronan’s Choir and the Folk Group. Liam Shanahan, Chairman of the Parish Pastoral Council welcomed all present to include family, friends and visiting clerical colleagues of Fr. Tom. Liam thanked Fr. Tom for his ministry and especially his ministry to the people of Roscrea. Liam said that Fr. Tom is very much loved in Roscrea and that he personifies the humility and kindness of Christ. Fr. Tom came to Roscrea “and even before people knew who he was, he was greeting people where they were in their daily lives, on the streets of Roscrea,” said Liam. Angela Mulvey, Sec. of the Pastoral Council thanked all who contributed to the Mass and the celebrations which were to take place afterwards in the Abbey Hall. The newly appointed Co. Parish Priests of Roscrea, Bournea and Kyle & Knock, Fr’s Pat Treacy and Michael Harding together with Liam Shanahan presented Fr. Tom with a framed photograph print by Brian Redmond of his beloved St. Cronan’s Church on behalf of the Parish. Fr Tom will continue his ministry in Roscrea, and will continue also as Chaplain to the local Conferences of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
