Nenagh main drain work may start this month

Tipperary County Council has no indication yet when work on Nenagh’s new main drain system will start in the town centre, but it anticipates it will be before Christmas.

However, the council has assured town centre traders that no work will be carried out in December in keeping with the former Nenagh Town Council ban on such work in one of the busiest trading periods of the year.

Cllr Hughie McGrath and Cllr Seamus Morris both told Nenagh Municipal District Council that the council was led to believe the work would start immediately after the Munster Fleadh was over in July. “People are complaining about the smell in the town centre again,” said Cllr Morris.

“It would have been a lot better to get the work done in the summer when the days are longer,” declared Cllr McGrath. He said that when the piping was laid it would tell whether or not indiviudual businesses had to look at their own buildings.

District manager Marcus O’Connor said the indications were that work from Cudville to Ashe Road, Newline and Borrisokane road would start this month.
