Gardaí have launched an inquiry into the death of Ronan Kennedy, the toddler who died from his injuries on Tuesday after getting into difficulties in a swimming pool in Youghal, Co. Cork.
The three-year-old boy was on holidays with his parents, John and Bridget, and his two brothers, when tragedy struck. Two lifeguards pulled the young boy from the pool shortly after 2pm on Monday in the Quality Hotel, Redbarn, near Youghal. Ronan was flown to the Cork University Hospital, and later transferred to Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin where he was treated in the Intensive Care Unit. His parents held a bedside vigil for the little boy as he battled for life. However, Gardaí confirmed on Tuesday that he was pronounced dead around noon. The death has sent shockwaves through Templederry and beyond, where both his parents are well-known in GAA and farming circles.
