Gardai in Borrisokane, Co Tipperary are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the Borrisokane to Portumna Rd N65 on the 19th Dec 2014.
The collision occurred at approximately 9.30am when a car was in a collision with a male(aged 72yrs) pedal cyclist at Lahinch on the main Borrisokane to Portumna Rd(approx 3km outside Portumna). The pedal cyclist was seriously injured in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will be carried out later today. The female driver(sole occupant) of the car aged 51 years was uninjured.
The road is closed pending a Forensic Collision Examination and diversions are in place.
Gardai in Borrisokane are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 067 27101, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
This is the second fatal crash in Tipperary over a 72-hour period. On Wednesday morning a man in his 70’s 70’s received serious injuries following a crash near Templemore. So far this year, 17 people have died on Tipperary’s road.
