Fears for driver safety because of the theft of roadside warning signs have been raised by Nenagh area councillors.

Thieves stole the batteries from one such sign outside Puckaun, an incident Cllr Joe Hannigan described as “shocking”.

“How could someone do that? This type of carry on is endangering people’s lives,” he told Nenagh Municipal District Council.

Cllr Hughie McGrath said that battery theft was an “ongoing situation”. He stated that supply companies were always trying to come up with a way to counter the thefts, but the thieves always seemed to be one step ahead.
