Dunkerrin girls Breda and Eleanor Hogan are planning to conquer Africa’s highest mountain next week, while fundraising for a worthy cause.

The brave duo are heading out on Thursday, and starting their trek on Sunday (September 15/21) for a week, scaling the 5,895m peak on the Tanzanian Kenyan border while raising money for Pieta House, which combats suicide nationwide. Readers can sponsor Breda and Eleanor through sponsorship cards in local shops. The pair are also planning a major fundraising night after they get home, on October 5th, in the Dunkerrin Arms Hotel. Breda said: “Our training has involved the altitude gym in Delta, Limerick, Caroontoohill, the Wicklow Mountains and local treks like Keeper Hill. Due to personal tragedy we are now more than ever aware of Pieta House’s value. All donations are welcome.” Pieta House Roscrea is located The Glebe, Ballyhall (Tel: 0505-22568).
