Hit musical opens on Wednesday next in The Premeir Hall
The Premier Hall has hosted many very entertaining shows down through the years - many of them from the Phoenix stable too - but this one will be particularly special. Bugsy Malone conjours up many images, most of them involving side splitting laughter, great gags, decent music and fabulous choreography. So it will be when Phoenix hit the stage on Wednesday next and run right through to Saturday night.
Producer Gerard O’Brien has been working very hard with Director/Choreographer Mary McDonagh; Musical Director David Wray; Assistant Director/Choreographer, Steffen Jorgensen; and Production Manager, Eamonn B. Shanahan to ensure that everything will be in readiness for the opening night. And, knowing the nth degree to which Phoenix always go, it most certainly will be all ready.
The fabulous set which pays a major role in the show has been designed by John O’Donoghue while Allan Butler has been charged, once again, with responsibility for Stage Management. Lighting designer is Gerry Taylor, while Star Systems will look after the sound.
The slapstick musical comedy, Bugsy Malone follows the rivalry between two half-witted street gangs. Bugsy, a washed up, well-intentioned, one-time boxer steps in to take control of Fat Sam’s gang and give Dandy Dan and his boys what they deserve.
In this film noir spoof, the message is one of good, clean fun; the characters are wonderful cartoon cutouts; and the weapons of choice are “splurge” guns using silly string and custard pies.
Among the up-beat musicla numbers are: “Bugsy Malone, Fat Sam’s Grand Slam, Bad Guys, My Name Is Tallulah, So You Wanna Be a Boxer? and You Give a Little Love” to name just a few.
Tickets cost €15 with concession coming in at €12. A family ticket represents great value at €40
