Thurles Town Councillor Noel O’Dwyer (Independent) has been informed that there is no regulation governing the height of trees on private property, despite the fact that they may be taking light from adjoining property owners.

Cllr Dwyer raised the matter at the monthly meeting of Thurles Town Council and cited one case in the town where people are forced to have the lights on all day long due the fact that light is being prevented from entering the windows of adjoining properties thanks to the height of the trees.

“I’m surprised to hear that there is not some kind of regulation governing this and I think that it is something we should look into. The trees are not obstructing anything or are not a problem other than that they are blocking out light,”he said.
