Much careful consideration leads to Deputy’s Decision

North Tipperary Deputy Michael Lowry has stated that he will vote against the Governments Bill on Protection of Life During Pregnancy having carefully considered it and received a huge amount of correspondance on the issue.

“The Government outlined its policy proposal on this matter and the debate ignited with the tragic and unnecessary death of Ms. Savita Halappanavar in October last. The entire nation was shocked and appalled at the sad and untimely death of this young expectant mother. From the time Ms. Halappanavar entered the hospital, mistakes were made, not just with the care surrounding her pregnancy, but with her overall care and monitoring. The reaction times and awareness of Ms. Halapannavar’s deteriorating condition were alarming slow.
