Independent TD Mattie McGrath has said that the continuing plans to close Cashel Civic Offices show that this Government is not afraid to waste money when it is in their own interest.

Deputy McGrath was speaking after Minister Tom Hayes publicly acknowledged that it ‘would be crazy’ for the offices to close. The planned closure comes on foot of the Local Electoral Area Boundary Committee Report 2013 which was initiated by Minister Phil Hogan, which has also targeted local seats of democracy right across the Country. Deputy McGrath said: “The people of Cashel are rightly outraged by this completely ludicrous plan to close the civic offices. Years of investment and restructuring which have gone into making the facility one of a superb quality will all be for nothing if the financial knife that the Minister is wielding is not set aside. I am calling on Minister Hogan to reconsider his plans in light of the real term impact on these communities.”
