Roscrea Community Development Council are to oppose any moves to downgrade Roscrea Garda Station.
It has been reported that it is proposed to close Roscrea Garda Station at night. RCDC will meet in the Abbey Hall on Thursday night of next week, April 4th at 8pm. and are requesting as many as possible to attend, when this matter will be discussed and people will be asked to empower themselves to protest any downgrading of Roscrea Garda Station.
RCDC Chairman John Lupton says, that the community must oppose any attempt to downgrade its Garda Station. He says that this threat comes following the closure of the court in Roscrea. Mr. Lupton says that “political responsibility lies with Mr. Shatter for any change to Roscrea Garda Station just as it did for the closure of Roscrea Court. The Garda authorities are now put in an unenviable position by the Minister, just
as the Court Service already was. Both had, or have, to sell unpalatable changes and do so as if they are, or were, of benefit to community which
of course is a nonsense.
