The Scout Section had a very busy weekend 9th / 10th March which started at the weekly meeting on Friday with an excellent talk on the Stars/Solar System from Paul Spencer and some Whittling.
Saturday 9th saw those doing their Scout & Venture Chief Scout Awards commence their Environmental Project with the Tidy Towns with the initial clean-up of the Railway Field and planning meeting with the Tidy Towns Commitee. The plan is to develop the railway field into a community garden along a biodiversity theme, with the planting of native grasses and trees, creating habitats for native insects and birds etc.,
The Other Scouts & linking Cubs enjoyed a morning backwoods cooking with Dutch Ovens. The Scouts also did a Road Traffic Survey on Abbey Street outside the Scout Hall; which showed nearly 25% in danger of receiving penalty points for their Driving. On Saturday Afternoon it was off to Birr Castle for a tour of the Castle Grounds and a talk on the world famous telescope.
On Sunday 10th, in approaching Artic conditions and enjoying another early start; the Scouts & Ventures headed to Cadamstown; where the activities with the Birr OEC included rockclimbing and abseiling in the morning followed by GorgeWalking in the river in the afternoon. A big thanks to the staff at the OEC in Birr for their help.
