Commemoration Ceremony in Tipperary

The Third Tipperary Brigade Old IRA Commemoration Committee hold their annual Commemoration Ceremonies to mark the Easter week 1916 Rebellion against English rule in Ireland on Easter Sunday March 31 2013 at the Republican Plot St Michaels Cemetery, Tipperary Town, at 2-15 pm.

The National Flag will fly above the Republican Plot that contain the mortal remains of the many gallant Tipperary people who served the cause of Irish freedom. Mr Michael Maguire former Chairman of Tipperary County GAA Board and Chairman 3rd Tipperary Brigade Old IRA Commemoration Committee will deliver a short oration after a decade of the rosary.

Easter week 1916 was tension filled in Tipp town as pro English gangs roamed the streets and heavily armed RIC patrols were frequent. Among well known opponents of English rule in the town was Michael O’Callaghan, a Creamery Manager and IRB activist and a Trade Union activist.
