Relay for Life Tipperary 2012 was launched in Roscrea last Wednesday evening by former Bishop of Kilalloe, Dr Willie Walsh. Relay for Life will be held n Toomevara GAA grounds on 25/26 August. Speaking at the Roscrea launch, Dr Walsh said that, in contrast to an aggressive individualism promoted during the Celtic Tiger years, the term relay suggested teamwork, having a common goal and relying on and caring for each other. He said that Relay, with its themes of Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back, was a very healthy concept in fighting cancer. Referring to the fact that so many in the community are affected by cancer, either themselves or a loved one, he wished this year’s event every success.
Tipperary Relay was the largest Relay event in Ireland last year with upwards of 1,000 participants, raising €112,000 in support of the work of the Irish cancer society, and it is expected that this year’s event will be even bigger. Anybody interested in getting involved or entering a team is encouraged to do so early as places are limited. They can do so by going to www.relayforlife.ie or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
