Members of Thurles Town Council have this week expressed their dissatisfaction with a response received from the Minister for Health in relation to the restoration of 22 respite beds at the Community Hospital of the Assumtpion in Thurles.

The letter, sent as a reply to a letter from the council last month seeking clarification on the subject of the beds which were removed from the hospital last year, was received by the council and described by Cllr David Doran as “typical of the kind of attitude” from the Minister and the Department of Health.

Cllr Doran it was who reacted first to the letter and said that using jargon like ‘reconfiguration’ was a typical move from the department and he described it as disgraceful that Minister James Reilly “seems to be suffering from amnesia” in relation to promises he made regarding the hospital beds, which he later said he did not recall making.
