Labour Senator Denis Landy has expressed his concern at the leak from the current document regarding the proposed closure and downgrading of Waterford Regional Hospital. Senator Landy posed the question why should this be fixed when it is not broken?
“The services provided by Waterford Regional Hospital for all of the South East including Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford and Kilkenny are excellent and meet all of the international requirements. We should not tamper with a system that has cost hundreds of millions to put in place,” he said.
Senator Landy also raised the matter at the Labour Party Parliamentary Party in Leinster House and called on the Party Leader Eamon Gilmore to intervene at this early stage so as that when this report comes to cabinet that support would not be given for the downgrading of Waterford Regional Hospital.
