St Anne’s Athletes Conquer Waterford

Athletes, family members and Coaches, Jim Mc Mahon, Sarah Cleary, Maura Byrne and Bríd Phelan from St. Anne’s Special School, Roscrea, travelled to the Waterford RSC Grounds on Saturday the 9th June 2012 to participate in the Munster Special Olympic Athletics Competition.

Athletes, family members and Coaches, Jim Mc Mahon, Sarah Cleary, Maura Byrne and Bríd Phelan from St. Anne’s Special School, Roscrea, travelled to the Waterford RSC Grounds on Saturday the 9th June 2012 to participate in the Munster Special Olympic Athletics Competition.

An Official Opening Ceremony and a Parade of Team Representatives preceded the commencement of all Track and Field Events. An atmosphere of anticipation, enthusiasm, cheerfulness and great joy was detectable from all athletes as they eagerly awaited the commencement of an action packed programme which would see them participate in the following events: 100 Metres Race, 25 Metres Race, 400 Metres Walk Race, Soft Ball Throw, Shot-put Women 3Kg and Shot-put Men 4Kg events.

As the games commenced the athletes and coaches were unaware that they would be returning home with an impressive collection of 8 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals, 3 Bronze Medal, 2 Fourth Place Ribbons and 5 Participation Ribbons A truly festive mood of celebration quietly grew throughout the day as all athletes participated successfully in their chosen events. Medal presentations were staged immediately after each event concluded and this procedure allowed for the build up of excitement throughout the games. The Board of Management would seek to extend heartiest congratulations to all athletes, Coaches and families!
