Borrisoleigh-based firm Ryans Cleaning have been confirmed as the cleaning crew for BT Live: an Olympic-long event occupying London’s Hyde Park and Victoria Park during the 2012 Games. BT Live will also include a set of concerts heralding the lighting of the torch in the Olympic Stadium, and later the closing ceremony. Ryans will have 150-200 staff at the event, of which around 50 will be travelling from Tipperary.
Though used to operating at large-scale events, Pat Ryan, owner of Ryans Cleaning, recalls the planning for BT Live as “pretty horrendous”, and Pat and his crew have had to prepare for the event since last September. This included working out the logistics of transporting labour and waste through London at the height of Olympic traffic. The BT Live sites “open at 11am and close at 12pm”, so the cleaners will have to work through the night to maintain the parks for the duration of the event.
