AN ambitious group of over 30 volunteers from Clonakenny, plan to Shave or Dye their hair as part of the Today Fm campaign to raise money for the Irish Cancer society. The group’s plan is to travel the 26 counties of the Republic on a bus over the May Bank Holiday weekend and to have one volunteer shaved or dyed in each county.

This is the third year of TodayFm’s ‘Shave or Dye’ campaign, and this year it has already raised over J700,000 for Cancer Research. Cancer affects 1 in 3 people in Ireland. The latest data from the National Cancer Registry of Ireland indicates that there were over 29,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed in 2010 and this figure is estimated to rise to 43,000 by the year 2020.

The Clonakenny contingent hopes to raise over J10,000 for this worthwhile cause. Organiser Colm Dunne plans to have three days of fun and fundraising.

The group assembles in in the Norebrook Lounge, Clonakenny, at 9am, on Friday Morning May 4th, before the first Shave or Dye in the Anchor Bar Killaloe. The group will return via 23 counties later to The Village Inn, Shinrone on Sunday evening for another night of shaving, dyeing and music in The Norebrook Lounge, Clonakenny.

All support is greatly appreciated. If anyone is interesting in sponsoring or taking part in this worthwhile cause, you can contact Colm on 087 0509050 or email colmdunne@hotmail.com.
