Nenagh town councillor Conor Delaney has claimed that dangerous parking on Friar Street, Nenagh, is putting pedestrians’ lives at risk.
“There is a blatant disregard for human life with cars and delivery lorries parking dangerously and illegally on double yellow lines on Friar Street. The time has now come for motorists to start taking responsibility for their actions,” said the Fine Gael councillor.
Cllr. Delaney recalled on one incident when a car had to mount the curb to pass a lorry parked on the opposite kerb.
“It was a real eye-opener for me as a mother was pushing a buggy straight into the path of an oncoming car and a serious incident could have occurred.
“I want to make a personal plea to business owners on Friar Street to ask patrons and delivery lorries to use the car parks provided on Friar Street and Abbey Lane. Parking is only 50 cent and this can go a long way towards safeguarding pedestrians,” he said.
Cllr. Delaney also confirmed that he had alerted the Gardaito this and will continue to do his part to keeping Friar Street safe for everyone.
