Fifty-four Macra members received Leadership Distinction Awards at a special awards ceremony which was held as part of the Bank of Ireland-sponsored County Officer Training in the Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny.

There were a number of winners from county Tipperary: Alicia O’Keeffe, North Tipperary, Bronze: Margaret O’Keeffe, North Tipperary, Silver and Ann Marie Wade, South Tipperary, Gold.

Over 150 of Macra’s County Officers attended the training weekend which aims to provide opportunities for members to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes necessary for a leadership position in Macra and in other organisations.

Macra members, who displayed leadership in their role, were presented with Leadership Distinction Awards from Michael Lauhoff of Bank of Ireland Business Banking at the special awards ceremony. The awards scheme recognises the hard work and achievements of county officers working on a voluntary basis within Macra, with Gold, Silver or Bronze Awards being presented to officers who achieve preset targets and pass an interview.

A Gold Award is the highest level that can be secured by a Macra na Feirme county officer, and makes that person eligible to be considered for a National Leadership Award (with a prize of a travel bursary of €1,000), or to participate as a Macra representative on a number of overseas seminars including the European Rally for rural young people. 27 members received the highest accolade of a gold award.

Training for club officers, also supported by Bank of Ireland, will take place on September 24th and 25th in the Johnstown House Hotel, Enfield.
