The Galtee Walking Club and the Ballyhoura Bears joined forces on Sunday last for a moderate A walk starting from Galtee Castle near Kilbeheny.
Under the joint leadership of Tom Lyons and Pat Lombard the 27 strong group enjoyed excellent walking conditions as they made their way to Galtymore via the Black Road. From the summit they followed the wall westwards and descended by Bengower and Carrigeen Mountain. The high numbers attending this event points to the popularity of such joint ventures. Above Clonmel, the 13 C walkers took in a loop from Carey’s Castle to the cross above the town and back along the Glenary valley passing a group from Dungarvan along the way. Crossing the fast flowing stream presented a challenge in a few places but luckily all were up to the task and kept their feet dry. There’s only one walk on Sunday next, December 8th, when Denny O’Dwyer will take a C group through Combaun Wood, meeting in Anglesboro.
