Cllr Maribel Wood (Ind) launched a blistering attack on Minister Tom Hayes’ record at this month’s meeting, demanding he “make a last minute effort and get a better deal for Cashel.”
Cllr Wood said the FG Minister should pay the Council Chamber a “courtesy visit.” “He fought a very small battle. I didn’t hear his voice raised. I didn’t see him going to Dublin.” Grogan’s groceries on the Lower Gate may close with more job losses, and Deputy Hayes should meet her “face to face.” Cllr Eoghan Lawrence (FG) said Cllr Wood should just call into Deputy Hayes’ office: “He’s right across the road.” Cllr Wood was trying to make politics out of a shop closing. “It’s a joke,” added Cllr Lawrence. Mayor Joe Moloney said Deputy Hayes had been instrumental in trying to save the Bolton Library during negotiations with University of Limerick. Some of the books may be kept in Cashel arising from Deputy Hayes’ efforts.
