Thurles Town Councillor Jim Ryan has made plea to the council executive to retain three hour free parking in Thurles town on Saturday’s.

Speaking at the monthly meeting of the council this week, the Independent Councillor said that the brave move by the council is paying off and he encouraged the continuation of the free parking and the possible extension to all-day free parking on Saturday’s.

“The good news is that this is working and it is making a big difference to the shopkeepers who are telling me that they are seeing increased footfall. It has been a very positive move by us as a council and I just feel that if were to extend it to all day free parking on Saturday’s it would really make a big difference,” Cllr Ryan said.

He asked Thurles Town Clerk Mr Michael Ryan to take his proposal into account when he is framing the Estimates of income and expenditure which will be deabted in full on December 18th.

Meanwhile the council is to host a Civic Reception on Wednesday evening next December 11th to honour the achievements of Peake Villa FC and Greg Broderick who have excelled in their sports over the last few seasons.
