Two new world records were set in Lough Derg by Christopher Healy when he set the fastest 10km length scuba dive and a new record for the longest distance travelled while scuba diving of just over 21km.

He travelled the 10km in 5 hours and 38 minutes and the 21km took him 11 hours and 14 minutes. Members of Lough Derg Sub Aqua Club, along with others, provided boat and diver cover and Lough Derg RNLI Lifeboat was also on hand. The dive raiseed money and awareness for Share a Dream Foundation and Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Christy began the dive after 4am on July 7 and surfaced in Ballina / Killaloe with fog horn blasts from moored boats signalling his surfacing after the dive.

Aughinish and Kilkee Sub Aqua clubs are running a Scubathon in Kilkee this weekend. The focus of the diving will be to log 1,000 metres of depth over 12 hours on July 20. Sunday will see water fun activities for all the family. The proceeds will go towards search and recovery activities.
