The pupils at the Sacred Heart Primary School in Roscrea gained international recognition this week as they were tweeted from on board the International Space Station!
Following a very successful Open Day during which Kristin Hadfield – daughter of the Commanding Officer on board the station – launched the school’s website, the Commander tweeted about the visit and commented that there were “A fine batch of young astronauts” at the school.
The excitement reached fever pitch in Roscrea as word got out that some very cute local children were trending on Facebook and twitter.
Comments came flooding in from people worldwide who wished they were back in school to have such a wonderful experience.
Many people remarked on how cute the children were, especially in their very Irish high-viz jackets!
The astronaut sporting the Hadfield signature moustache was singled out many times for looking the part and giving an extra vow factor.
A school in New Zealand would like the infants to please pass on the templates for making the masks, while adults commented on how exciting the event sounded when it was described on the Ray D’Arcy show on Today FM.
A huge thank you to Mrs Heenan who organised Kristin’s visit to the school.
