25 Tipperary representatives will be amongst 132 Greyhounds competing in the 2012 Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby.
The Derby begins this week, with the 132 Greyhounds vying for Derby glory in 2012. Tipperary is strongly represented, with 25 Greyhounds owned or trained in the County.
Ahead of the First Round, sponsors Ladbrokes have quoted Ballymac Vic as 7/1 favourite, while 2011 Derby champion, Razldazl George, is 33/1. Last year’s winning trainer, Dolores Ruth, has an 11 strong entry this year, including Razldazl George, and Michéal O’Muircheartaigh’s Razldazl Rioga. Among the other large entries are the 2010 winners PJ Fahy and his son and trainer Conor, with 12 competitors in the First Round heats.
The Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby is the pinnacle of the Irish Greyhound Racing calendar, offering over €225,000 in Prizemoney including €120,000 & trophy to the winner. The event, run over 550yds in Shelbourne Park, celebrates it’s 80th anniversary as a Classic Event.
The First Round took place last night, Wednesday 1st, with further first founds tonight Thursday 2nd & Saturday 4th August.
Second rounds take place on Thursday 9th & Saturday 11th August, with Third round on Saturday 18th August, Quarter- Finals on Saturday 25th August, Semi- Finals on Saturday 1st September and the Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby Final on Saturday 8th September.
