What an amazing success Tipperary’s first ever Darkness into Light walk held in Roscrea on Saturday last was.

Organisers had hoped for 250 participants but in the event this was far exceeded as nearly 400 people put on the yellow t-shirt and set off on a 5km circular walk from the Scout Hall, Abbey Street at a little after 4am to commemorate those lost to suicide and to fundraise for Pieta House.

The Scout Hall was busy from 3am registering walkers, handing out t-shirts and high-visibility jackets as well as much needed tea and coffee. By quarter to four both the Scout Hall and the adjoining Abbey Hall were abuzz with chat and anticipation. And then at 4am after a welcome from Paul McNamara, the Chair of Roscrea Joins Pieta, and a blessing from Father Lorcan the walkers set of down Abbey Street. After turning right onto Limerick Street and all the way up to Castle Street the road was a sea of yellow, a truly spectacular sight.
