Hospital Action Group Writes To Minister

THE Community Hospital of the Assumption Action Group have again written to Minister Reilly, to express their disappointment at his failure to honour the firm commitment given in the presence of the three North Tipperary T.Ds, to reopen the 22 community nursing beds in the Community Hospital of the Assumption by the 31st of January.

Despite numerous promises and false hopes the return of these beds has yet to materialise.

On the basis the Action Group have stated that they will reignite and push their campaign at the end of this month if the beds are still not restored.

“We believe that if these beds are not fully restored in a number of weeks we will be left with no choice but to escalade our campaign.”

“We understand that considerable reconfiguration is needed within the HSE which is why we have been patient so far. We are nearing a stage where we feel that a significant grace period has been given to the Minister and the stage that the patience and the trust of the public is wearing thin. We believe it is fair therefore to allow the Minister to the end of March before we step up our campaign.”

“We are further disillusioned by the Minister’s failure to respond in any meaningful manner to our letters firstly regarding the re-opening of these beds, and secondly regarding his agreement to have another meeting with us in the unforeseen event of the beds not being restored by January 31st. Finally our invitation to the Minister to visit the hospital, which was gratefully accepted by him at our meeting in November, has also proven to be a false dawn.”
