There are currently 420 eligible applicants on the Thurles Town Council housing list, The Tipperary Star can reveal, but the prospects of building any homes for them in the near future, are nil.
Members of Thurles Town Council were furnished with details of the housing list at the monthly meeting of the local authority last week and were shocked to discover that the figures were so high.
Thurles Town Clerk Mr Michael Ryan, presented a report to the members having been requested to do so by Councillor John Kenehan at a previous meeting. Cllr Kenehan had stated that the members needed to know what the housing list comprised and was anxious that the details be given in full so that an assessment of the situation could be carried out.
The 420 on the housing list is made up of 215 single parents, 83 lone parents, 54 families, 34 older persons, 25 couples, and 9 travelling community.
