DEPUTY Maire Hoctor has survived a crucial vote to lead Fianna Fail into the next General Election in North Tipperary.

Deputy Hoctor won the FF nomination at a party selection convention in the Ragg, near Thurles, on Friday night, against Cllr Michael Smith Jnr.

In a move reported by the Tipperary Star last week, Cllr John Hogan decided not to run, leaving a straight vote between the two other contenders.

The final tally was 176 votes for Hoctor, 131 for Smith, with one spoiled vote.
