A meeting to explore the possibility of establishing a conference in the Borrisokane area which would serve the area of Borrisokane, Lorrha and Terryglass will take place on Tuesday next April 21st at 8pm in the Old Church Borrisokane.
The meeting will be chaired by John Lupton of the Roscrea Conference who is President of the North Tipperary Area Council and will be attended by members from North Tipperary Conferences including Nenagh who looked after needs which arose in the Borrisokane area.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul was founded by a 20 year old law student, Blessed Frederick Ozanam, in Paris in 1833, who went on to obtain a Doctorate in Law and became Professor in Law, before dying at the early age of 40. He was motivated by his Christian faith which he believed must to be expressed in actions rather than words. Today there are over one million members of SVP spread all over the world. The SVP go to people at where they are at in life. They bring immediate help to alleviate need. They must also, as inspired by Ozanam, examine the cause of poverty and do what is possible to help restore a person to self sufficiency. Members of SVP must be non-judgemental and must possess a good sense of empathy. Anyone who would like to explore the possibility of becoming a member of SVP, or would like to see a conference set up in the Borrisokane area, are asked to come along on the night, Tuesday 21st, next at 8pm in the Old Church, Borrisokane. It will present the opportunity of hearing what SVP is about and chatting with existing members of SVP. The Society of St Vincent de Paul are grateful for the ongoing support that people in the Borrisokane area and its hinterland have given to SVP over many years. If anyone wants any further information about SVP or about Tuesday night’s meeting please contact John Lupton on (086) 2478681.
