Roscrea’s Dean Maxwell Community Nursing Unit is in a “very vulnerable” position as it has no plans for development, heard the Roscrea Community Development Council (RCDC).

There have been “no plans for development over the last three years,” an audience member told the meeting.

If there is no investment in the Nursing Unit, “I would be deeply concerned for the people working there. I do know people who attend there, and they’re very worried. Elderly people are very concerned.”

The main problem for Dean Maxwell is the site on which it is situated, which restricts its growth and development.

“It’s landlocked,” said the speaker. “The site is so limited. If the site was in the centre of Dublin somebody creative could come up with a plan.”

It’s a “terrapin structure” consisting mostly of prefabs “built in a time of austerity”. There are“not enough bathrooms” and some rooms are not big enough to meet standards.
