Fine Gael local election candidate for Nenagh, Cllr Conor Delaney has called on North Tipperary County Council to immediately recall temporary outdoor staff in the wake of storm damage.
“Ordinarily, temporary staff are let go in October or November when demand for work slows and then recalled in March or April the following year when the demand re-appears. However, with the damage caused following the past two months of unprecedented stormy weather, rural North Tipperary, in particular, is on its knees and repairs need to be urgently carried out to roads, signs and ditches damaged. I am calling on the council to immediately recall temporary outdoor staff.”
Cllr. Delaney claimed that the work was there to be done and there was no need to have workers lying idle.
He also called on the new county council to address the issue of temporary staff and resolve the issue once and for all, pointing out that 80 per cent of staff in the Newport area were temporary while the same amount were permanent in the Nenagh / Borrisokane area, saying the imbalance neded to be addressed.
