Parents in Newport “need to take some responsibility” for the behaviour of young people in the town, according to Cllr John “Rocky” McGrath.
He told Newport area council that youngsters had broken down a wall in one estate that was now a health and safety issue as young children were able to get out through it.
He further pointed out that trees in the village had been vandalised.
“They are knocking down trees, but if you asked them to cut the hedges they wouldn’t. Parents will want to wake up. Parents don’t want to take responsibility,” he said.
Cllr McGrath also stated that the bottle bank was “another frustration” for residents as North Tipperary County Council had a huge job trying to keep it clean.
Cllr Jonathan Meaney suggested that the bottle bank be relocated.
Area engineer Michael Hayes replied that the council will look at the damaged wall and that its environment section was examining the bottle bank with a view to finding an alternative site.
