Pictured at the Phelans Golf Society Captain’s Prize, are Gerry Fitzgerald (Captain) seen here presenting Flan Lyons winner with his Prize.
The Society honours its highest achieving members with awards at the end of each golfing season in Mickey Phelan’s pub on the Main Street.
Many of the members are associated with Loughnane GAA Club. A great night was had by all, on Saturday (Sept 21).
Mickey is a well known personality in town, and is profiled on the local website www.roscreaonline.com It reads; “For the GAA in this country to prosper, every town, parish and county needs a Michael Phelan.
For many clubs around the country the yearly slog of ensuring the club and the games survival is an ongoing battle of perseverance against what seems at times to be nothing more than that of constant adversity. Without the likes of Mickey Phelan, our national games would have died a death a long time ago.”
