“Mindless” vandals who threw two newly installed life buoys into Templemore lake, should “cop themselves on”, according to the town’s Councillors.
Repair work has had to be carried out on the two kits of life-saving equipment, said Town Clerk Tom McGrath. “We talk about tragedies, and we need to be conscious that where there is water, there is danger,” said Cllr Mick Connell. “These mindless people, I would ask them to really think about what they’re doing.”
“People are not thinking about how valuable as asset they are. In the last few months, we’ve had about 20 people drowned,” said Cllr Jim O’Shea. If someone drowned in the lake, it would impact upon the person who vandalised the life buoys for the rest of their lives, added Cllr O’Shea. “It’s absolutely crazy, I hope they cop on to themselves,” said Cllr Valerie Young. “Since the warm weather, how many lives have been lost?”. Cllr Michael Ryan said it was a criminal act. “There should be a few extra ones, especially on the far side. I hope they realise what they’re doing. They obviously don’t care.”
