Fine Gael TD Noel Coonan has welcomed the announcement by Minister of State for Sport, Michael Ring TD, of €400,000 in regional sports grants for Nenagh Town Council.

“I am delighted with the announcement by my Fine Gael colleague Minister Ring of €400,000 in regional sports capital grant for Nenagh Town Council. This money will go towards an extension to gym facilities including aerobics studio and changing rooms, outdoor fitness trail with gym equipment and skateboard park,” explained Deputy Coonan.

“Sports play a major part in our lives and it is important that we continue to support and maintain sporting organisations in this community, so that our children can learn the importance of sports and its health benefits.

“I would like to thank Minister Ring for his hard work and determination in finding the funds in these difficult economic times to support our sports organisations. Many sports organisations in Tipperary have been fighting to survive over the last few years with so many people struggling to pay subscription fees. These funds will go a long way towards keeping facilities up and running.

“Now, more than ever, it is important to keep sports clubs alive in this country. They play such a vital role in our community and provide support to children and adults in all walks of life,” concluded Deputy Coonan.
