In a move to clarify its role and location, St Sheelan’s College, Templemore will in future be known as “Templemore College of Further Education”.
Principal Dr. Noel Colleran outlined the rationale behind the rebranding move when he explained that the aim is to build on the stellar reputation of St. Sheelan’s College but seek to present the college in a more contemporary way. By building the geographical location into the identity of the college it is hoped to be more clearly identified with the local community.
Dr. Colleran pointed out that the excellent work carried out by staff and management over the past decade in St Sheelan’s provides the ‘shoulders on which Templemore College now stands.’
The Board of Management, which formally ratified the new title at its May meeting, is confident that this new approach will raise the appeal of the college among prospective students who seek to gain for themselves a higher orbit of opportunity.
The newly branded Templemore College of Further Education has been one of the good news stories of the county over the past decade and the success of the college has had significant benefits for the town of Templemore. Students are travelling to the college from as far away as Adare, Kildare, Tullamore, Banagher, Cashel, and Urlingford. Many are staying in accommodation in the town. In addition, having so many adults travel into the town every day creates a lot of additional revenue for local businesses. Rebranding to include the name of the town will foster a greater pride of affiliation with the local community.
Templemore College of Further Education is offering a vast array of courses including Media Production, Tourism and Travel, Creative Media, Landscape and Design, Greenkeeping, Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Complementary Therapy, Interior Design, Architectural Design, Security Studies, Childcare and Psychology, as well as a wide variety of Business, Secretarial and Computer Courses.
Whether your interest is in retraining for the workforce or in furthering your education, the time is ripe to view the college and talk to the teachers about what is involved.
As a college for adult students, Templemore College of Further Education is not like a school. The atmosphere is one of partnership between students and teachers which embodies respect for the different circumstances, interests, experiences and backgrounds of each student. To this end, all courses are modular so that students can tailor courses to their individual needs and can pursue them at their own pace. The College will initiate an intensive publicity campaign over the coming months to communicate the rebranding development as comprehensively as possible.
