Thurles Gaels GAA Club Notes

Juveniles - On Thursday night our u14 footballers contested our second mid final of the year against Durlas Og. This was a very lively game of football between two evenly matched teams. The game went right down to the wire and entering the last five minutes Durlas og held a slender lead however one last attack yielded the winning score and secured our third title in six years at this grade on a score line of 5-2 to 5-1. We now play Emly in the county semi final in Cashel at 2:45pm on Saturday next. The u12s football county championship due to be played last Saturday was played on Monday evening last at 6pm in semple stadium. Best of luck to both teams.

On Thursday evening at 7pm U16 hurlers for 2012 will be asked to Kickham Park for a players meeting regarding training and upcoming matches.

Training for all from u6 to u14s in Kickham Park at 7pm on Wednesday and 10:30am Saturday morning.

Junior - On Saturday evening last we played Thurles Sarsfields in the mid Division 1 hurling league final. Both teams were hard to separate early on but excessive fouling on our behalf put Sarsfields in to a 0-11 to 0-3 half time lead. However all was not lost as the strong breeze that favoured Thurles Sarsfields was in our favour in the second half. This was not to be the case as the breeze faded at halftime and the early promise of a come back faded along with it, we played all the way to the end but there was to be no comeback as the Sarsfields ran out winners on a score of 1-16 to 0-10. Best on the night for the Gaels were John Callanan and Morgan Lanigan in defence and Gary Coppinger in attack. We now turn our attention to the mid hurling championship which takes place on Saturday evening at 7pm against JK Brackens in Templemore. Training this week is Tuesday and Thursday at 7:15pm in Kickham Park.
