GURTAGARRY National School near Toomevara has been given a glowing report by a Schools Inspector, following a visit to the school last October.

On October 17, a Department official carried out a Whole School Evaluation (WSE) on Gurtagarry, which examines all features of school teaching and managment. WSEs are carried out on all schools in line with national regulations. The report was published this month.

On the day of the visit, the Inspector noted that Gurtagarry NS is a co-educational primary school under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Killaloe. It’s about 7km from the village of Toomevara. The present, modern school building was constructed in 2006. Enrolment figures have remained close to the current figure of 47 pupils since the last school report was furnished in 2002.
