South Tipperary Fine Gael T.D. Tom Hayes has welcomed the confirmation by the HSE that they are committed to the continuation of services at St. Anthony’s Unit, Clonmel. The confirmation comes following statements by Deputy Hayes condemning the innacurate comments by other Tipperary representatives on the future of the unit.

“The statement released by the HSE this week leaves no doubt as to the future of St. Anthony’s, Clonmel. All of these facilities provide fantastic services to the people of Tipperary, and I am delighted to see the HSE being so public in their support.

“What we saw last week was an undermining of that position; the remarks made by certain opposition TD’s have caused alarm, and have created great anxiety amongst the patients and their families.

“I want to once again reassure those patients and families that absolutely no decision has been made to close St. Anthony’s. Having spoken to the Minister myself on this matter, I stand by that commitment” concluded Tom Hayes.
