Concerns for St Patrick’s Hospital As Pharmacist Retires

Cllr Séan McCarthy, a Medical Doctor, said there were more problems at St Patrick’s, with the continuing erosion of existing health services. Cllr McCarthy said he heard that St Patrick’s Pharmacist Ms Maura Heffernan, is due to retire this year. However, following repeated calls to HSE management in Kilkenny, no replacement pharmacist has so far been allocated to take over the service.

“Now, they’ll have to travel to Clonmel. A hospital without a Pharmacist, is like a school without a Teacher,” Dr McCarthy told the monthly meeting. “I don’t know why Cashel is being singled out.” Previously, members heard that a member of staff at the hospital who administers medication to prevent blood clots, will also be retiring.
