The sixth running of the Upperchurch Walking Weekend will be held this year on Nov. 11th, 12th and 13th and is again expected to draw a large number of participants to the scenic upland village. A 25 km leisurely family cycle will be included this year for the first time due to public demand following the recent successful cycling event held in aid of the Fighting Blindness Fund.
The official opening will be on the Friday night in Upperchurch Hall. There will be a number of guest speakers and local walkers giving talks and slide shows on various topics. On Saturday and Sunday there will be a total of nine guided walks between six and twenty kms long with something to suit all levels of fitness. There will be set dancing lessons at 5.00 pm on Saturday and a traditional music session later that night.
The 25 km family cycle will start at 1.00 pm on Sunday. All children must be accompanied by an adult and helmets are compulsory. There will be complimentary refreshments after all events. There is a registration fee of 10 euro for adults and 5 euro for children for all walks and the cycle.
Full details are available at www.upperchurch.ie. Brochures are also available in local outlets. For further information phone 0504 54443 from 10 to 2 weekdays, or 0504 54284 or 086 0518934 at other times.
500 Euro Poster Competition

Suitable posters may be used in future advertising and in publications such as the local Historical Journal. Closing date is Monday Nov. 7th and details are available at www.upperchurch.ie or on North Tipp Co. Council’s website. There are four age categories and entry is free. All entries will be on display in Upperchurch Hall during the weekend.
